What to Expect at Your First Myotherapy Consultation

  • Initial consultation will consist of a thorough assessment and documentation of your medical and surgical history
  • You will be asked about your current medication including herbs and supplements
  • You will then be asked to describe the reason for your treatment and your expectations
  • A detailed discussion of your symptoms will then follow
  • Your Myotherapist may then need to conduct a series of postural assessments, orthopaedic and neurological tests to ascertain the source of your symptoms or condition
  • You will be asked to perform a series of range of movement tests to ascertain if there are any restrictions present.
  • Your Myotherapist may then need to test your muscle strength and function
  • You will be asked to disrobe to the appropriate level and lie on the treatment table while your Myotherapist carries out a palpatory assessment of your muscles, bones, joints and soft tissue structures
  • Your Myotherapist will then discuss with you the most appropriate treatment methods for your condition; These may include massage, deep soft tissue manipulation, skeletal mobilization, cupping, dry needling, heat/ice, myofascial stretching, TENS therapy
  • Your treatment will be carried with your participation and feedback
  • Your Myotherapist may then prescribe some exercise/stretches for you to perform at home to help your condition
  • Your Myotherapist may also outline some lifestyle adjustments which may help improve your condition/symptoms
  • A treatment plan will then be discussed in relation to follow up consultations, rehabilitation and preventative factors

 

 

What to Expect at Your First Pregnancy Consultation

  • Your Medical & Surgical history will be asked as above
  • Your blood pressure will be taken
  • Modified assessment techniques specific to pregnancy will be carried out
  • Thorough postural assessment will be performed to assess pelvic alignment and related muscle contraction and imbalance
  • You will be positioned comfortable on your side with pregnancy specific pillows & bolsters
  • Massage will be performed adhering to all contraindications for pregnancy
  • Education related to your stage of pregnancy will be offered throughout your treatment
  • A treatment plan and exercise program will be discussed with you, specifically for you

 

 

What to Expect at Your First Post Natal Consultation

  • Details related to your delivery and Post Natal recovery so far will be discussed
  • Details related to ‘new motherhood’ and feeding will be discussed
  • A postural assessment will be carried out
  • New methods of treatment will be available that are not available during pregnancy
  • Exercise programs and Post Natal advise will be offered

 

 

What to Expect at Your First Massage/Remedial Consultation

  • Your Medical and Surgical history will still be taken as above
  • You will outline area of concern or preference
  • Your massage will be carried out in the position most comfortable for you
  • Your massage will include the use of essential oils specific for relaxation and relaxation music
